Why a diagnosis can help
Undiagnosed ADHD can have a profound impact on a person’s life. However, with a conclusive diagnosis, individuals can gain insight into why they experience certain difficulties or behave in a particular way. Armed with this knowledge, they can build confidence and self-esteem, and take control of their day-to-day life with greater ease.
Assessment Process
A thorough assessment is carried out over a period of up to 3 hours.
What to expect
While taking the first step to an ADHD assessment and diagnosis can feel daunting for most people, our team is here to ensure you feel in control and at ease, every step of the way. Our ADHD nurses have more than 20 years experience combined and provide informed, consistent support to individuals and their families.
Our ADHD clinicians will get in touch with you within 48 hours of receiving a referral or an appointment request. They will discuss your circumstances and arrange an appointment with you. We follow a strict ‘no hidden fee’ policy, and you will be provided with pricing and payment details before booking an appointment.
Our ADHD assessments can be carried out either in person, by phone or online. The assessment can last up to 3 hours and can be completed over 2 separate appointments.
The assessment process
Prior to your assessment we will send you a series of questionnaires and rating scales, for you to complete.
Our ADHD clinicians will then guide you through the assessment focusing on the difficulties you have experienced historically and your current perspective/circumstances. Where possible we will gather information about your childhood experiences with someone who is familiar to you (either a parent or sibling). We will also complete the DIVA-5 assessment as part of the diagnostic assessment.
Once we have completed the assessment, we will discuss the outcome with you directly. This may include a diagnosis of ADHD, but it may also be possible that a diagnosis of ADHD is not reached. In either circumstance we will discuss next steps with you, to ensure you feel equipped to make informed decisions.
After the diagnosis
We understand that feeling informed and confident in your clinical diagnosis and treatment plan is crucial. We will work together to consider your treatment options carefully and develop a treatment plan that works for you.
Where medication is agreed as a suitable option, you will have the support of our ADHD clinicians to help you make an informed decision on which medication is best for you.
If you require other therapeutic support, we will ensure that you have details of other services you can access.
With regular updates, we will monitor your progress and adjust your treatment where necessary. Our service is committed to providing transparent and truthful clinical information every step of the way.
Frequently asked questions
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) cannot be diagnosed through a single test. Therefore, it is essential to conduct a comprehensive evaluation to establish a diagnosis, exclude other causes, and determine the presence or absence of co-existing conditions. A thorough assessment of the individual’s academic, social, emotional functioning, and developmental level, along with a careful history, is necessary.
After the assessment is completed, it typically takes between 3 and 5 weeks for a full diagnosis. However, these timeframes may vary.
As we are a private clinic, we can take appointments without the extensive waiting times experienced in the NHS. To make an appointment at a time that’s convenient for you, please get in touch.
